Run-10. 2008 - Sukothai, Thailand

Perspicacious readers might have noticed that while Vietnam had now hosted the event three times and most of the other Mekong countries had hosted it twice, Myanmar and Thailand had only hosted it once. However, the political turbulence that engulfed Myanmar towards the end of 2007 ensured that the vote in Dalat was unlikely to allow Yangon H3 an opportunity to straighten out this anomaly in the statistics and Thailand, in the shape of the Bangkok Harriettes, readily agreed to host the event. The hostesses, in what was fast becoming a tradition, decided on an “outstation” concept and chose to hold MIH X in the ruins of Sukhothai, the ancient capital city situated 430 km north of Bangkok. It is perhaps notable that, in a strange twist of fate, these ruins resulted from the destruction of the city by an ancient Myanmar king!

The event took place from 24 to 26 October and was preceded by the now traditional TDH3 Run. The party, however, started in Bangkok with a special Hash train being hired to transport the Hashers and plenty of beer to the northern reaches of the country with a stop en-route to run a Hash in Ayuthaya.

The Friday night party started with a spectacular sound and light show especially organized by local officials in honour of the visiting Hashers who later had a chance to see the ruins a bit more up close and personal during the Saturday and Sunday runs because the trails were laid through and around the ancient city.
