Run-11. 2009 - Yangon, Myanmar

MIH XI tool place from 7 to 9 November. In 2009, Myanmar was still not exactly the world’s most popular travel destination and yet 275 people managed to come together for several days of fun and debauchery. Maybe the reputation of the 2003 event had something to do with it. With all of the Mekong countries now having hosted the event twice (except for Vietnam which had hosted it three events), it was decided in Yangon, in as much as it was practicable, to set up a rotational schedule between each of the Mekong countries so as to maintain future equality.

The Saturday Ball Breaker trail was notable for the fact that nobody actually finished it, while the medium trail was notable for the fact that one Hasher, Flasher, while crossing a stream by means of a railway bridge, managed to fall straight through one of the gaps between the sleepers and was lucky not to decapitate himself in the process. He did, however, collect a nasty looking wound to his leg that ruled out Hashing the next day.

A Full Moon Run was held on the Monday after the MIH weekend and this was the start of what is now an annual event. Since the “original” so-called Mekong Indochina Full Moon Run was credited to the debacle of 2004 in Angkor Wat and was designated Run No. ˝, this became MIHFM Run 1˝. The Hashers were treated to a very special run around the ancient Shwedagon Pagoda and through numerous old monasteries. They were also treated to the sight of an angry abbot hurling stones and rocks at some Full Mooners to whom he took a dislike for running through his monastery and disturbing his sleep.
